Within the Global Supply Chain organization, this Advisor role is primarily responsible for leading sourcing and contracting activities supporting the Central Technology Organization (CTO). The CTO organization seeks to improve and advance our business performance through technology application and enable Hess to thrive in a continually evolving world.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leading and managing the commercial sourcing, contracting, and negotiating for this innovative category. The candidate will work closely with the technology startup ecosystem and traditional suppliers who are leading the way on shaping and shifting how technology and innovation is used in the Energy industry, making supplier relationship management of key importance.

This successful candidate will be a strong and valuable contributor by effectively collaborating across a variety of internal and external stakeholders in support and delivery of the technology and innovation funnel process.  Knowledge and experience working with innovative companies, whether it be startups or larger organizations, will be of benefit to the successful candidate as the organization develops and grows technology capabilities and deployment across the company.

This role has exposure to key stakeholders across the Hess organization including CTO, Senior Leadership, asset teams/management, and the various functional leaders including Global Supply Chain, Legal, Facilities/Projects and CIO organization. For the right candidate, who is motivated, agile, professional and intellectually curious, this affords development and growth in the Global Supply Chain team and the greater Hess organization.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Central Technology Organization’s strategic roadmap and vision to successfully support the delivery and execution, playing a key role in delivering on this
  • Collaborate across a variety of teams to understand the technological use case to effectively engage, lead, and facilitate commercial and legal discussions with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Manage end to end procure to pay process for the CTO team including vendor onboarding, sourcing, contracting, PO creation, and invoice resolution
  • Develop annual demand plan including deployment of supplier relationship management
  • Advise CTO on commercial approaches, lead negotiations, and help obtain best value and speed for the Company
  • Navigate, propose, and develop appropriate commercial models including equity partnership, product sponsorship and development, seed funding, arm’s length relationships, research and design studies, and others to best suite CTO needs.
  • Successfully support transition of “graduated” pilots across stakeholders, specifically wiring into Category Management teams effectively as the connector within GSC for projects that transition from Pilot to Scale
  • Effectively collaborate with the technology ecosystem and suppliers to understand their technologies and innovations, establishing relationships that will strengthen and deliver on the CTO vision
  • Develop novel approaches to contracting to accommodate working with suppliers of all sizes, including Government Research Entities, Startups, Conglomerates, and others.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Global Supply Chain function, supporting and communicating change, initiatives & strategies accordingly


  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in supply chain, data science or engineering related fields, Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years in Strategic Sourcing / Category Management experience or equivalent
  • Works well in a collaborative environment; actively shares best practices and is a team player
  • Free thinker with the ability to find alternatives to conventional methods or new ways of doing work
  • Effective multitasker with the ability to handle significant and broad assignment of break-in work while maintaining core responsibilities
  • Demonstrated strong influencing capabilities
  • Ability to analyze data summarizing findings in presentation form and make sound recommendations
  • Ability to articulate and clearly communicate problems and solutions in a concise and logical manner
  • Experience in working with innovative companies or startups would be advantageous, understanding the mechanisms for funding, valuations, marketing, launch, licensing and the various phases of companies
  • Strong commercial and negotiating skills
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property including the US patent system, handling of confidential and trade secret information
  • Cursory knowledge of information technology integration or design such as it relates to Software as a Service, or premise software
  • Ability to understand cyber security concerns and work with stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks
  • Track record of process improvement activities or relevant certification in Lean or similar methodology.
