DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The purpose of HOU Insourced Maintenance Services is to ensure the airport maintains its annual operating certificate by performing key maintenance functions as mandated by Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) – Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139. These functions include but are not limited to; Airfield Markings (Runways, Taxiways and Vehicle Drive Lanes i.e. Service Roads), Pavement Maintenance, Erosion Control, Ditch Maintenance, Obstruction Removal, Airfield Mowing, and Perimeter Fencing. We also strive to ensure the airport’s roadways, esplanades, landscaping and clear zones, are maintained to the highest standards and represent HOU in a manner that is acceptable to our leadership team.
The purpose of this position supports our goal of achieving “opening day fresh” conditions for our airport by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of Houston Airport System’s owned assets through effective, efficient and proactive maintenance under the direct purview of In-Source Maintenance at Hobby Airport. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."
The Laborer duties will include but are not limited to:
- Performs a variety of manual, labor intensive, general maintenance and repair activities.
- Operates hand and power tools and equipment.
- Monitors inventory control.
- Performs painting, roofing, carpentry and plumbing activities.
- Reads and monitors gauges.
- May operate vehicles to and from work locations.
- Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances.
