Sky High is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring the community together to provide comfort, fund research and save lives of those fighting pediatric cancer and other life-threatening conditions. The Finance Manager position is responsible for coordination of all accounting and finance matters for the organization. These include reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable, bank accounts and payment of operating expenses and forecasting capital expenditures of the organization. This also includes executing the annual audit and completing the annual 990 submission. Overseeing incoming donations, asset management and depreciation as well as assisting the Director of Operations and Board Treasurer in developing financial policies, controls, and reports. This position reports to the Director of Operations and is based in Houston, TX.


A. Daily

  • Enter received invoices
  • Deposits
  • Create invoices requested
  • Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process
  • Reconcile QuickBooks deposits and revenue with all donations tracking software (Salsa & Onecause)
  • Prepare appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations

B. Weekly

  • Pay bills and send positive pay file
  • Book journal entries to QuickBooks (accounts payable)
  • Run & deliver P&L reports to appropriate division managers
  • Check log & checks for deposit
  • Send finance update to CEO

C. Semi Monthly

  • Receive and input reviewed and approved expense reports to run payroll

D. Monthly

  • Reconcile bank statements and investment accounts
  • Reconcile credit card activity and allocate income by type
  • Reconcile accrued & deferred balance sheet accounts & journal entries to
  • appropriate accounts
  • AR reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly close
  • Prepare financial reports for leadership team

E. Quarterly

  • Budget vs. actual reporting and reconcile report to books
  • Deliver and present accurate and timely reports and forecasting for quarterly board meetings

F. Annual

  • Submit requested work papers and answer questions for audit (complete audit)
  • Prepare and submit information to CPA for 990 preparations (complete 990 submittal)
  • Prepare estimated 4th quarter budget vs. actual report
  • Assist CEO and leadership team with proposed budget and strategic revenue plan for upcoming year

G. Ongoing

  • Coordinate contract administration of all multiyear donors including calendaring of expiration and renewal dates
  • Collect W9’s from vendors
  • Create and review P&L Reports of events and reconcile with event coordinators
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure Special Projects for CEO, COO, Operations Director, and Board, e.g., charts and graphs of revenues and expenses
  • Research on tax requirements of events and report to CEO and Event Director
  • Support Operations Director with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Secure and maintain required forms such as W9 and for potential reporting requirements
  • Periodically review and determine additions and/or improvements in accounting procedures to maximize reporting
  • Batch importing from credit card platform manually into QuickBooks.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or 5 - 7 years of relevant experience
  • Payroll, Accrual Accounting experience
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is preferred but not required
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work in a small office and be a team player (do what is best for the organization and the team) with the drive and initiative to ensure projects are completed successfully, within budget, and on time
  • Self-starter, motivated, detail-oriented, independent-thinker with initiative to assist the organization in fulfilling its responsibility to its membership
  • Must be interested in a long-term commitment to the organization, including opportunities for higher levels of responsibility within the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and manage multiple priorities accurately, within deadlines and with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Intermediate level experience in MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, including the ability to gather data, design and produce finished charts, graphs, reports, and presentations, using the above software
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain working relationships with the Organization’s Directors, Officers, volunteers, members, and office staff

  • Operating vehicle that is always available for use during business hours, after hours meetings & event & team retreat travel.

  • Candidates must be physically able to perform duties including frequent lifting to 25 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting.


  • The Finance Manager must be able to deliver the roles and responsibilities consistently in a fast-paced, demanding environment, where accuracy, attention to detail, and responsiveness are key to success of the organization.
  • The Finance Manager must be exhibit flexibility and be able to work in an environment that may require irregular working hours to support after hours meetings and designated Sky High’s events.
  • The Finance Manager must respond timely to emails, and requests within a 24–48-hour period; if on vacation, an out of the office reply must be set and directed to Direct Manager and/or Office Admin.


8:30am-4:30pm Monday – Thursday 

This person will office at 9800 Richmond Ave. Suite 335, Houston, TX 77042 

DRESS CODE: Business attire Monday – Thursday (jeans are acceptable)

Event weeks: Appropriate fitness attire & tennis shoes are permitted & encouraged


  • Base salary + annual performance bonus (scale: 0-10% of base salary) determined by the direct manager & CEO in December of each calendar year
  • Company Bonus: A companywide bonus will be determined by the CEO based on reaching company revenue goals. 
  • Health insurance including dental, vision, and long-term disability. (Approximate value $6,000 annually) 
  • $60 cell phone stipend per month
  • Paid travel expenses; auto mileage .50 per mile / daily meal per diem of $50 for breakfast, lunch & dinner
  • Mandatory 3–5-day annual offsite staff retreat 
  • One mandatory quarterly team offsite workday or team activity; date & location at discretion of Operations Manager 
  • 80 hours of paid time off (PTO) prorated at time of start date. *20 hours per quarter. 
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) shall be utilized for vacation, doctors/dentist appointments, personal and family illness, or any other personal time off needed. Employees shall not be allowed to carry over any accumulated time for PTO or 
  • “Comp Days” from one calendar year to another. Employees will not be compensated for any unused PTO at the end of the calendar year. 
  • “Comp Days” – 1 day off for every 7 days consecutively worked will be awarded to the employee. Comp days must be taken after the 7 days consecutively worked. 
  • 3 weeks paid bonus vacation; must be taken week of July 4th, Christmas, and New Year’s (office is closed) (Approximate value $6,000)

Employment is not stated for a period and there are no contractual limitations on the termination of employment. The CEO can, at any time, terminate this position with or without cause or notice. If the employee elects to resign from the position, he or she may do so at any time but must provide a minimum of two weeks’ notice to the CEO of the organization.
