The Director, Financial Operations Position 

Sunnova Energy is searching for a Director of Financial Operations. This newly created position is responsible for creating efficiencies and leverage within the Finance organization by functionally leading the design and development of global Finance processes and tools. In support of Sunnova’s ongoing expansion and scale, this role will initially focus on process, systems, and tool enhancements. Success will be measured in the near term by achieving throughput efficiencies in support of the FP&A organization while being able to routinely drive continuous improvement across the organization to achieve greater efficiencies and scalability.  


Director, Financial Operations Responsibilities 


  • Defines and refines the vision and mission of an effective Finance Operations team in a highly distributed and fast-paced technology company 
  • Collaborates with Finance management team to ensure Finance operational direction is aligned with Finance strategic initiatives and plans 
  • Relentlessly reduces and eliminates needless complexity from processes, ensuring that workflows, tools and data sources are well understood, aligned and easy to use 
  • Leads transformative change to continuously drive the Finance department’s brand in the organization as a value-added contributor 



  • Increases speed to perform routine forecasting functions via improved processes, streamlined data sets and global training efforts 
  • Improves the organization’s ability, through  better tools, processes and data reporting to perform meaningful analysis and provide faster and more actionable information to be used by the organization to drive results 
  • Defines consistent data delivery model and calibrate on needs of forecast specific data with clear lines of ownership within dependent cross-functional teams such as Finance, IT, Commercial Operations, and Service & Energy Operations 
  • Identifies process gaps and performs an overall process assessment and re-engineering within functional areas that the FP&A organization to determine a project plan to increase efficiency and enhance accuracy 
  • Drives continuous improvement in process and tools routinely across the Finance organization, differentiating as needed for regional and local requirements 
  • Manages the end-to-end processes for monthly metadata additions or changes to our common Finance hierarchies; includes refining the process, creating RASCIs, gathering requests, performing analysis on potential impacts, creating recommendations to appropriate approvers, and ensuring successful implementation 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification 
  • 15-20+ years’ experience managing and driving continuous change and improvements in processes 
  • 6 - 8+ years’ manager experience with multiple reports
  • 3 - 5+ years’ senior manager experience with multiple reports
  • 6+ years’ public company experience
  • Deep knowledge of functional requirements for financial systems and an understanding of the business and system needs to develop successful solutions 
  • Experience partnering cross functionally with multiple departments (e.g., Finance, Accounting, FP&A, IT, etc.) 
  • Experience working in budgeting and forecasting tools with a track record demonstrating a thorough understanding of their structure – ideally you have implemented a budgeting and forecasting tool previously as part of a functional team, not purely a technical IT implementation 
  • Must have proven track record of timely analyzing and summarizing extremely large quantities of data using, for example, advanced Excel functions 
  • Very strong aptitude for learning, can quickly grasp complex concepts and data and summarize for relevant key messages, and are comfortable driving change and managing within a high-growth business 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Scrum Master 
  • Previous experience in renewable energy 
  • Strong experience and proficiency in data analytic tools 
  • 5 - 6+ years’ experience in an energy market
