The City of Houston's Department of Housing and Community Development (HCDD) seeks to create a city in which every resident has an affordable home in a community where they can thrive. Partnering with non-profit, governmental, and local entities, HCDD seeks to strengthen Houston's neighborhoods, provide true housing choice and execute the Mayor's vision for One Houston with complete communities throughout. Since Hurricane Harvey, HCDD is managing more than one billion dollars that are dedicated to helping low and moderate-income families recover.
To achieve this vision, HCDD is seeking an Administrative Assistant (Funding Assistant) to join its team. In this position, you will perform accounts payable functions and general administrative duties to support the Public Services Division.
Key Responsibilities

  • Directly assists program specialist/team member with certifying requests for payments and that all mathematical calculations are submitted correctly.  This may include verifying cost allocation and ensuring percentage of cost incurred.
  • Serves as liaison to subrecipients as it relates to reviewing requests for payments and documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Organizes/maintains funding records, spreadsheets, and/or databases. 
  • Performs data entry; develops and prepares appropriate correspondence, documents, and reports.
  • Perform general administrative duties. 
  • Greets internal and external visitors; answers phones and directs calls.
  • Responds to customers' questions received on the telephone, in person or by mail.
  • Performs other duties, within the scope of the classification, as requested

This is a grant funded position subject to cancellation when funds are depleted and/or contract period ends.
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than optimal temperature and air conditions.
