Our Burn ICU in the John S. Dunn Burn Center is the only Comprehensive Burn Center in Houston and is verified by the American Burn Association. The affiliated board-certified physicians at the Burn Center, care for all types of burn injuries, inhalation injuries and various skin disorders including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. This unit is a mixed acuity unit with the unique ability to care for floor, IMU and ICU patient populations being able to provide the entire continuum of care and see the progression of your patients. 1.5- 2 years of ICU experience is strongly preferred for this area. Shock Trauma ICU
The Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU), one of the most intense ICUS in the nation, is located within one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in the nation with the lowest mortality index. The Red Duke Trauma Institute, which features 200 beds with an average of 5,072 adult and 1,187 pediatric trauma cases per year. The STICU sees the most varied trauma patient population, ranging from cardiovascular to neuro to Life Flight to the operating room. This multidisciplinary team is recognized for the care they provide to the sickest of the sick. Please note: 1.5 - 2 years of ICU experience is strongly preferred for this area.
Medicine IMU (MIMU)
The Medical IMU offers the opportunity for nurses to care for a mixed acuity patient population. We provide care for both intermediate care medicine patients as well as respiratory ICU and complicated post-surgical ENT patients. The unit provides a unique opportunity that allows nurses to build critical thinking skills and helps to provide a foundation for furthering their skillset to help them attain their career goals. Procedures include chronic ventilators, non-titrated drips.
We value quality as demonstrated by low CAUTIs (1 in 4 years), CLABSIs (2 in 1 year) as well as a 50% reduction in HAPI (hospital acquired pressure injuries) in the last year. The care we provide for post-surgical ENT patients has helped Memorial Hermann obtain ranking for ENT, 2nd in Texas and 19th in the US.
Medicine ICU (MICU)
The Medical Intensive Care Unit has the highest acuity medicine patients in the city of Houston. The primary patient population involves complex pulmonary issues, in addition to high level sepsis and end stage renal disease. All MICU nurses are trained in Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). The Pulmonary Critical Care attending physicians and nurse relationship is one of the strongest in the hospital and the physicians are readily available. We strive for excellent outcomes and have robust quality initiatives. MICU has unparalleled teamwork, nursing is very autonomous and have daily opportunities to learn. Some of our team's accomplishments/projects: One year CAUTI free, currently working on Beacon application, low sepsis mortality and Sepsis pathway.
We were the first network of accredited Stroke Centers in the region and among fewer than 30 in Texas. Our network of Memorial Hermann Stroke Centers also enables Memorial Hermann ER's to receive stroke patients transferred via ground or Life Flight air ambulance from hospitals lacking the capability or capacity to provide urgent treatment.
Memorial Hermann-TMC is also the region's leading on-site, 24/7 dedicated stroke team offering patients comprehensive treatment around the clock.

Neuroscience Elective /Spine Unit
The Neuroscience Elective/Spine Unit at Memorial Hermann Medical Center provides compassionate care and high level customer service to patients undergoing a range of spinal and/or neurological surgery and procedures such as spinal decompression, spinal fusion, tumor removal, aneurysm repair, diskectomy, etc.
- 16 Bed unit.
- Mixed acuity patient population, handling intermediate care trauma/surgical patients, including orthopedics, spine, trauma and neurosurgery.
- Need at least 1-2 years RN experience working in an in-patient, acute care Medical Surgical setting. IMU experience preferred.
- BSN preferred due to Magnet facility. Will consider ADN if willing to obtain BSN within 3 years.
Heart Transplant ICU
The Heart Transplant ICU is a challenging, but very exciting unit, as it has a higher level of intensity than other areas; 1:1 care due to ECMO, VAD and transplant. The Heart Transplant ICU offers excellent teamwork and physician support. New and current staff received additional training on ECMO, VAD, Transplant and hemodynamics. Imagine the possibilities that come along with working at one of the fastest-growing transplant programs in the nation!

Heart Transplant IMU
Heart Transplant IMU is a high acuity IMU that provides care to patients in advanced heart failure including Left Ventricle Assist Devices, heart transplants, and lung transplants and post-cardiac surgeries/procedures including coronary artery bypass and valves
** Multiple accreditations (VAD, Magnet, Stroke, Transplant), professional growth opportunities (device training, thorough orientation, continuing education)
*1-2 years of Acute Care experience, Med Surg and/or Cardiac Tele preferred
As a part of the Heart and Vascular Institute at TMC the Cardiovascular IMU team cares for critical patients who are recovering from post-surgical procedures such as CABG, MVR, and AVR. Along with recovery, nurses on this unit assist with a variety of drips and care management on a 3-4 patient ratio.

*Experience with telemetry, cardiac monitoring, cardiac care, or IMU population preferred.
The Cardiac Intermediate Unit cares for patients recovering from cardiac complications and surgical procedures.
Patient population: STEMI/NSTEMI, CHF, TAVR, S/P PCI, ablation, mitral clip.
Drips: Amiodarone, Heparin, Bumex, Lasix, Cardizem, Remodulin/Flolan, Milrinone.

The CVICU at TMC is a complex, fast-paced environment that excels at providing compassionate, collaborative, and efficient healthcare to post-surgical patients. This unit is medium-high acuity that cares for patients immediately after cardio-thoracic surgery such as:
- Valve repairs/replacements
- Open and endovascular aneurysm repairs
- Vascular recovery
- Thoracic procedures
While admitting 3-6 OR patients daily, this team also manages many post-operative complications which may include the need for advanced cardiovascular device management. (CRRT, ECMO, IABP, Impella, VAD)
Sarofim Heart Failure IMU/ICU
At our Texas Medical Center (TMC) campus, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to expand our physical footprint into the new Sarofim Pavilion, so that we may continue providing excellent patient care to our community.
The expansion includes a dedicated floor to support our growing Heart and Vascular population. These new beds are in addition to our current compliment of beds within the Heart & Vascular (HVI) service line at TMC.
As a Sarofim Heart ICU Nurse, you will have the opportunity to care for patients with end stage heart failure in critical condition. These patients may need advanced device management as a bridge to transplant or destination therapy, such as LVAD.
*2 years ICU experience preferred
Cardiac Care Unit (Cardiac ICU or CCU)
The Cardiac Care Unit provides care for patients recovering from Chronic Heart Failure, TAVR, STEMI, Cardiogenic Shock, Cardiac Arrest, and Post PCI procedures.
The Cardiac Care Unit is team-oriented across Cardiovascular and Heart Failure ICU Units and prioritizes family-centered physician support. With the support of this team, you will be challenged to think critically and learn something new every day.
Devices: IABP, Impella, CRRT, Tandem Heart. Artic Sun (hypothermia)
One (1 year of ICU RN experience preferred, open to 2 years of IMU experience or 2+ years of Cardiac/Tele experience with previous charge RN/leadership experience.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing; Bachelors of Nursing preferred
- Current State of Texas license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
- Certified in Basic Life Support
- Additional certifications may be required based on discipline and/or nursing unit requirements
