Position Summary:

Working closely with executive leadership in an assigned college, the Senior Manager will recommend strategies or positions for college programs, credentials, and approval bodies to help drive the college’s Key Results. As a recognized thought leader in a discipline recognized by the corresponding college, the position oversees complex problems connecting programmatic accreditation(s) of (an) assigned college(s), regulatory structures for the regulated programs offered by the college, and foresights on the future of the professions supported by the college. The Senior Manager will work with leaders across the university for continued growth and success of each of the college’s offerings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Keep informed of changes to national, state, and professional regulations and standards to support accreditation and compliance activities for each program offered within each college;
  • Liaise with other university departments to obtain engagement, data, and support for accreditation and compliance activities and to provide information about requirements to ensure overall university compliance.
  • Consult regularly with the college’s executive leadership on issues related to major and minor curriculum changes, substantive change reports and other changes that may affect compliance with accreditation or approval agencies;
  • Provide guidance during the development of reports and self-studies for programmatic accreditation;
  • Advise internal departments on operational regulatory requirements for faculty;
  • Manage large-scale projects that college’s have in their strategic and operating plans pertaining to new programs (obtaining necessary regulatory approvals) and quality assurance (researching and obtaining accreditation);
  • Surface identified problems with the ability to operate in specific jurisdictions, analyze each to find a root cause, and suggest ways to improve processes and systems to keep the problem from reoccurring;
  • Serve as the key subject matter expert to liaise with regulatory agencies outside the university, influencing them as needed to accept the practice, approach, or novel concept suggested for WGU’s students;
  • Serve as the key subject matter expert on college’s compliance issues—coaching and training others as needed;
  • Respond in a timely fashion to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Technological competence with MS Office suite (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Office 360;
  • Prior training as a quality examiner (e.g., an accreditation site reviewer) and experience on a site visit (Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award experience is preferred);
  • Interpersonal relationship skills (social-emotional intelligence) of confidence, focus, ethics, and accountability as demonstrated by checks with multiple layers of references;
  • Understand the organization and arrangement of legal information in various formats;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and accurately;
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex analyses and discussions into written documentation; and
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively organize, prioritize, and perform multiple job functions and conflicting priorities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a field represented by or cognate to the represented college(s) from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a highly regulated environment (experience in statutory/ regulatory interpretation and application within higher education will receive preference);
  • Proven record of success in working with national, programmatic, and state accreditation and approval bodies; and
  • Minimum of four years of experience in higher education regulations, compliance, accreditation, or quality assurance, working with remote teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in a writing-intensive field (e.g., Communication, English, History, Law, Policy) from an accredited college or university;
  • Success working with international, national, regional, or programmatic accreditation and/or jurisdiction-specific approval bodies;
  • Candidates with experience working with programmatic accreditation agencies relevant to the associated college(s) and have prior experience teaching/administrating at the postsecondary level will be given preference; and
  • Bi-lingual (writing and speaking) in Spanish.
