The Project Engineer II Position 

Sunnova Energy is searching for a Project Engineer II for our PV Codes and Standards team. This position primarily supports our Operations and Maintenance team with redesigning systems that are failing and need repairs and new installation.  While simultaneously maintaining the Company’s quality standards and applicable codes on their installations by providing design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting support for solar and solar storage systems. Additionally, the position is responsible for the continuous innovation of the design and installations of our dealers to ensure the best customer experience and low cost of ownership under Sunnova’s warranty terms. A keen knowledge of Sunnova’s business model and awareness of its impacts on various departmental stakeholders is a must.

Project Engineer II Responsibilities 

  • Leads O&M engineering project of system redesign and planning process, including design, engineering, equipment specification selection and procurement, and commissioning
  • Serves as a technical lead and actively participates in complex detail design and execution
  • Works with senior engineers to evaluate new products and technologies
  • Reviews engineering drawings/packages, final designs, and technical adequacy and provide alternative solutions or designs.
  • Provides project metrics, tracking, and reports to stakeholders
  • Manage ECM cases assigned to engineering for review 
  • Works with Special Projects Lead Engineer to determine any structural integrity of the system 
  • Encourages individual professional growth and development by meeting mandatory project deadlines, displaying skills and competency, and supporting department-based goals, which contribute to the organization's success; serves as a mentor. 
  • Act as a critical decision-maker for complex engineering issues; management shall review and approve potential larger-scale business implication issues. 
  • Stays up to date on changes to electrical codes, standards, and best practices on behalf of the Engineering Department; tracks applicable requirements, regulations, standards, and guidelines related to system designs. 
  • Completes other necessary duties as assigned 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • 3+ years of experience in the Solar Industry 
  • EIT Certification (Engineering in Training)
  • Extensive and current knowledge of the National Electrical Code 
  • Experience resolving customer service issues and diagnosing or troubleshooting PV, PV Storage systems, and its electrical components for proper system performance 
  • Must be certified, where applicable, on each technology relevant to installations 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual, English and Spanish 
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) and residential construction 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mechanical design, electrical design, and theory 
  • Familiarity with current residential PV electrical and mechanical equipment 
  • Must be detail-oriented and efficient 
  • Ability to identify solutions to resolve technical problems 
  • Keen understanding of technology integration of existing electrical systems 
  • Demonstrates the ability to make reports based upon findings 
  • Ability to create strategies based on goals and initiatives 
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, including drafted plans, sections, elevations, schematics, and wiring diagrams. 
  • Strong organization skills and communication, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrates the ability to make reports based upon findings 

Working Conditions

  • Open office environment with the ability to work remotely as required 
  • Willingness to work outside of regular hours as required to address business needs of strategic partners 
  • 10% estimated domestic travel
