Position Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Unload ethanol from railcars to storage tanks
  • Unload crude oil from railcars to pipeline
  • Perform railcar switching activities
  • Perform locomotive operator duties
  • Perform tank line up for railcars to tank transfer activities
  • Operate SCADA system for automated transfer activities  for both Ethanol and Crude Operations
  • Perform all work in strict accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Perform all work in strict accordance with operating policies, procedures and checklists
  • Climb tank stairs, operate valves and pumps, and gauge  tanks
  • Perform or assist in the performance of preventive and regular maintenance duties
  • Assist Operations with product transfer alignments including piping, pumps and associated valves
  • ERT membership may be required
  • Perform facility maintenance/housekeeping duties as assigned

Position Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Attributes listed below are highly desirable:

  • Two or four year degree with any discipline from accredited college or university  OR
  • Honorable discharge US military , any branch OR
  • Three years terminal operations/maintenance experience  OR
  • Five years of Industrial experience

Industrial experience is defined as:

          

      • An individual must have experience in working in an Industrial setting such as a manufacturing plant, steel mill, refinery, petrochemical plants or energy related industries OR   
      • Performed construction work on pipe lines, tanks or manifolds  OR   
      • Have Millwright or industrial mechanical, welding or electrical experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
  • Must pass and complete Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be proficient in rail operating and switching procedures
  • Must have experience transferring Crude Oil from railcar to tank through heat traced pipeline.
  • Must have experience with heating railcars using steam.
  • Must be able to safely operate a self-propelled mobile platform to gain access to the top of railcars to connect vapor vent hoses and open valves.
  • Must be proficient in tank car offloading procedures for both Ethanol & Crude Operations.
  • Must have experience offloading railcars
  • Must have experience switching railcars
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test
  • Maintain training in Safety and Hazmat requirements at the facility
  • Must be able to work on docks
  • Proficient in comprehension of written work orders
  • Basic math skills required
  • Able to work with wrenches and pipe wrenches and other tools
  • Requires turning and tightening nuts and bolts
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management
  • Must be willing to work overtime with little or no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc as dictated by operations
  • In order to perform the essential duties, regular work attendance is required
  • Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules
  • Ability to be on-call during and after regular business and non-working hours including after dark hours, for work as may be      required, assigned and scheduled as dictated by operations

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly exposed to outside in adverse weather conditions and also but not limited to: heights in excess of 5 feet, work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, etc.
  • Climb ladders and work at high elevations, using the proper safety equipment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach  etc. for extended periods of time
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
