POSITION: Finance & Accounting Summer 2023 Intern


The Finance & Accounting Intern position will provide a summer internship to students who are pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Accounting or Finance. This is a high impact position that allows the intern to perform real-world, value-added work while learning a significant amount about our business processes, our accounting and finance function and state-of-the-art systems used in this exciting and dynamic industry.

Responsibilities will include some mix of the following, areas of focus will be established closer to the start date based off of projects and business need:

* SOX Testing - Under the direction of the SOX Sr Manager and Sr Specialist, interns will assist in supporting compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), including:
* Participate in the walkthrough meetings led by external auditors and SOX Sr Specialist to gain an understanding of various business processes and controls
* Perform control testing by evaluating the supporting documentation against the SOX test plans
* Interact with process owners and control owners

In this role, interns will be given wide exposure to various accounting and finance processes and controls (e.g. how different types of transactions are initiated, processed, and recorded from beginning to end, and how different departments interact with each other within the process). The intern will also have the opportunity to work with multiple accounting and finance department personnel, including many who are the subject matter experts in their areas.

* Technology Development - Under the direction of the Finance Business Performance Technology Advisor, interns will assist with automating one or more manually intensive accounting or SOX testing processes. Hess uses state-of-the art technology to run its business on single instance global platforms, including SAP, Hyperion, and TIPS, but many processes include manual steps performed outside of the main systems. In this role, interns will be taught one or more automation tools and then apply those tools to real-world processes where automation can make a material difference. Possibilities include:
* Advanced Excel macros
* SAP scripts
* Automation Anywhere robotics routines
* Power BI

* Finance Support - Under the direction of the Finance Support Managers embedded within the Global Production business, interns may assist in a number of finance-led processes, including month-end close and monthly forecasting processes, annual update of asset retirement obligations estimates, cost management, internal business reporting, process improvements, special analysis and research as may be required.

This role will provide opportunities to collaborate with the wider teams within Hess' Onshore and Offshore Production teams - namely Well Factory, Reliability Operations, Developments/Infrastructure, Asset Retirement/Decommissioning, Midstream - and also liaise with the Accounting Shared Services teams.



* In pursuit of Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with a minimum of 9 hours of Accounting coursework
* Coursework demonstrating aptitude for systems and technology
* Minimum GPA of 3.25
