DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform payroll functions pursuant to assignment in Payroll Services to insure employees in assigned department are paid correctly and timely. Review and correct time and attendance entries. Must login daily to call center and assist customers. Provide support for personnel with issues regarding incorrect or complex time and attendance entries and pay calculations. Process off-cycle requests and termination pay packets. Research issues in both KRONOS and SAP and take corrective action. Position has some discretion and must perform with minimal supervision. Prepares and/or monitors general payroll activities, procedures and various reports for compliance with city ordinances, policies and procedures.

Maintains department personnel/payroll records and prepares related reports. Resolves payroll check discrepancies. Performs data entry activities to update records. Reconcile payroll reports. Calculate and submit Termination Pay requests. May train department timekeepers/supervisors in maintaining records. Process payroll wage statements as required. May be required to respond to auditors requests for documentation. Performs other duties as necessary. All payroll personnel are expected to cross train and become familiar with all duties and tasks required of Payroll Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. within an essentially normal office environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

One year of administrative experience is required.

Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None

PREFERENCES

Certified Houston Payroll Specialist (CHPS)

Fundamental Payroll Certification or Certified Payroll Professional Certification (FPC or CPP)

SAP experience and/or KRONOS Experience

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
